Indian Rights Association

The oldest welfare group devoted entirely to Indian affairs.  It was formed in 1882 as a nonpartisan, nonsectarian organization for promoting the civilization of the Indian and for securing his natural and political rights.  Toward this end it collects data, principally through personal investigation by its officers and agents, regarding the Indian's relations with the Government and the white race; his progress in industry and education; and his present and future needs.  It also exposes wrongs and aids in the progressive program of legislation.  The Indian Rights Association has its headquarters in Philadelphia.
