A dull red blanket made by the Navajo Indians by using wool from a Spanish trade cloth. The word means "baize" in Spanish and is applied to the cloth itself, which was introduced in the nineteenth century as a trade item. The Navajo unraveled the cloth and used the wool to make their blankets, which were the most highly prized of all Navajo blankets.
